Psychiatry Site Evaluations

For this rotation, I presented 3 comprehensive notes and 5 drugs commonly used in psychiatry. My patient cases involved one with major depressive disorder and suicidal ideations, another with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, and the last with substance-induced psychosis. My site evaluator provided great feedback to myself and my 2 classmates, which precipitated educational discussions regarding psychiatry topics. I learned not to take everything at face value and to question the validity of certain information, especially when interviewing patients in psychiatry. I also learned a great deal about the legal aspect of psychiatry, and we were taught more about the specifics of admission criteria and when it is safe to discharge someone. We also discussed other interesting topics such as forensics and language barriers which may alter psychiatric presentations. Overall these were informative and enriching site evaluations.
