Urgent Care Site Evaluation

During my site evaluation for this rotation, I presented the required material, including a patient case and journal article on Ludwig’s Angina. The pharmacologic cards I submitted included a wide range of drugs, from antibiotics to analgesics to muscle relaxers, as common medications prescribed in urgent care. The feedback I received was helpful; my professor was able to add important information in all parts of my site evaluation. He started discussion on the journal article I presented, and asked me to explain what my understanding is of Ludwig’s angina. He was very interactive and had all students involved during every presentation. Therefore I also learned about my classmates’ cases, which included a case of appendicitis. We discussed our ability to distinguish emergent vs nonemergent cases, which is an important skill to have especially in the urgent care setting. We were asked high yield questions as a helpful review as well, such as which is the best diagnostic imaging for appendicitis and why. Being that this is our last clinical rotation, we were also given advice with the transition from students to providers, which was much appreciated.
